Cali’s head was still buzzing from her prayer session, She had been out of touch with the Gods for so long that speaking with them again made all her thoughts feel fuzzy. The journey out of the caverns was a long and winding path but she was thankful for the time it gave her to think both on her thoughts about the prayer and who she was going to seek out to help.
Her first thoughts were Sanna, an herbalist and healer that helped to mentor Cynder. Then there was… the trio of males who she was friends with. A rag tag group of boys who enjoyed a hard days work. Two feathered vayrons and a massive golden tyr, Bennu was one of two mercenaries in that group, who enjoyed using their unusual and captivating feathers to confuse and woo their way to finishing their job. Personality quirks aside the guys were all strong and intelligent and loved a good project, Cali knew they would all jump at such a prospect. She had just specially sent a message to Bennu.
Well, she hope that they would ‘jump’ at the idea, she had sent message they all of them a few days ago, she had left it mostly vague but focused on the opportunity to be apart of something greater then themselves and a once in a life time opportunity.
She was hoping that her friends would be more inclined to help than the villages she had passed on the way to their meeting spot. Cali had to tried to recruit some help from those areas but being as they were so close to the caverns most of those who were willing to help were already there, attempting to search out new help didn’t work out well.
She kept her hopes high that they wouldn’t turn tail and leave when they heard how much work it would be to free the Matriarch from her crystal tomb.
She met the two of them at a crossroads less then a half days walk to the Matriarchs crystal prison, the group was already settled into their campsite for the evening, they had evidently met up earlier in the day.
“I am just saying,” Sanna was on one of her tangents. “There has to be a more effective way to go about your work than lies or subduction.”
Bennu shot her a sly smirk and raised an eyebrow. “Oh I assure you,” he purred. “It’s very effective.”
Cali smiled and padded up to Sanna “Don’t pester the poor lady, Bennu. She has not interest in your… charms.”
Bennu huffed and went back to checking his supplies, Sanna gave him a sideways glance then walked over to Cali.
“Cali!” Sanna half jumped on Cali in an embrace. “I came as soon as I could, Anytime my favorite apprentice calls for aid I am always ready to go. How is my young Cynder?”
“Oh as bouncy as always, She is doing amazing though, the healers working on the Matriarch are very impressed with her skills.”
Sanna smiled, she started to speak but was interrupted by the feathered duo pushing their way past her.
“Caallliii, hows my favorite hard ass?” Bennu smirked and smacked Cali playfully on the shoulder
Cali ignored Bennu and gave him a friendly shove,and went back to talking to Sanna.
“How are you my friend?” She smiled a genuine smile at her.
Sanna sighed in relief to have another female in the group now, someone to act as a buffer against the pranks of the feisty lad.
Cali spent the better part of the evening trying to talk the two into helping, while Sanna was on board immediately the other needed some convincing. Bennu kept questioning as to what they would get out of it. While Sanna was interested in being a part of such an incredible experience the mercenary saw it more as opportunities that would be lost elsewhere. However she was able to sway him by illustrating the point that was an entirely new region with unexplored areas and new contacts to make. They could get in the Haedians good graces by helping out in freeing their Matriarch.
They set up camp for the night with plans to head out for the caverns at first light. Sanna and Cali set up their supplies together and sat down next to fire to talk, Bennu was huddled up on the other side of the fire inspecting the maps of the caves.
Sanna was busy regaling her with all the recent cases she has covered and her expeditions into some undiscovered areas trying to find new and better remedies.
Cali smiled and nodded through most of the story even though she had very little idea of what she was talking about, she would be relieved when they got back to the Matriarch’s cavern and Sanna would have Cynder to talk to.
They all settled in for the night and despite Bennu’s loud snoring she slept like she hadn’t in what felt like weeks, the caverns air just wasn’t the same as the fresh breeze of the outside.
The journey back was rather uneventful but when they arrived Cali sent Bennu in the direction of the excavation teams, he was one of the most intelligent Vays that she knew. Hoping Bennu would put his brain to something helpful, she then took Sanna over to where the healers and Cynder was at. Watching her two friends reunite and start chatting away happily made her heart soar. She wished she could stay with the girls and help but her healing skills were ..lacking. Luckily she had two of the best on her side though.
